FAQ's

Doula: A trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and educational support to a laboring parent before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the most satisfying experience possible.

When do I hire a doula?

Generally around 28 weeks is a good time to start interviewing and hire a Doula. If you know that you want Doula support, 20 weeks is a good time. Because Heart of Virginia Birth Services offers two prenatal meetings, being hired before 34 weeks is preferable.

For Postpartum Doula services, same timeline can apply but Heart of Virginia Birth services is flexible. Contact for availability when you need!

What do I get from my birth doula?

Heart of Virginia Birth Services offers emotional support, physical support, and evidence based information during the pregnancy to postpartum time. Heart of Virginia Birth Services offers a free consultation, two prenatal meetings, labor support starting at home until 1-2 hours after birth, and two postpartum visits. Heidi has experience with Rebozo use, Acupressure for Labor & Delivery as well as Spinning Babies techniques. Heidi's job is not to take the place of your birth partner but to support them as well.

What do I get from my Postpartum Doula?

Heart of Virginia Birth Services offers postpartum support from after delivery up until one year postpartum. Heidi offers a free 30 minute consultation.

Do you offer just Birth Photography?

Yes. Heart of Virginia Birth Services has been providing clients for years with pictures taken as able during birth support. Heidi has always had a passion for photography and decided in 2018 to add it to services. She offers Birth Photography in the Richmond area.

Are you available for my due time?
